How Do I Hold a Pigeon?

Palomacy adopter & volunteer Jill demonstrates how to hold, pet and make friends with a pigeon. (And gets told off at the end by Opal the demo pigeon!) No bird likes being “caught” but, once held properly, petted and reassured, you can make friends with your pigeon. It may take a long time or it may happen quickly. All birds are individuals and please remember- the bird is always right.

Palomacy Pigeon & Dove Adoptions saves the lives of domestic (unreleasable) birds that are otherwise killed in overfull animal shelters for lack of adopters. Pigeons make wonderful pets- either indoors with the family or outside in a predator & rodent-proof aviary. We don’t make wild birds captive and we don’t breed! There are too many beautiful birds in need of homes already.

  1. I love this video! Thanks Opal and Jill.

  2. FANTASTIC video, Jill! Love this! Great info. to have. I’m glad I’m doing my pigeon-holding more or less right….but I learned a few important tips (and things I hadn’t even thought of) from your video. I love the humor, too, and the smiles. Our pigeons always make me smile and chuckle too– They are so sweet and funny (and forgiving), even when they are in their “territorial defense” mode. Thank you Jill and Opal! :-)

  3. This is adorable and informative!
